Would love to go, but can't - that weekend's an event up at Duncans Mills. Geoff and I haven't been to an NCWA event yet this year, and this is one of our favorite sites.

Have fun everyone! Very Happy

NINJA EDIT: 100 POST GET! Laughing

DUAL NINJA EDIT ACTION: Ignore this post - no longer applies as PVC outing date has changed. See Usako's post above. Very Happy

The Buttreek pattern is almost perfect - the Beaux Baton girls' dresses have a much higher waist seam, though. There is a seam under the bust instead of the waist, with a fitted waist area, so we'd have to slash and reposition the lower bodice to get the correct seam. We'd also have to fake out the CF buttons on the upper bodice, but that's pretty straightforward.

We'd also need to draft a collar for the capelet and attach long, slightly full French-cuffed sleeves to the dress.

I'll be swinging by Joanne's tomorrow - I'll take a look at the pattern and see how hard that would be.

I'm tempted to just go with the basic Hogwarts uni. Very Happy

The dresses aren't very good for making the Beaux Baton outfits, tho' they are cute.

The cape pattern is perfect - I wound up buying Buttreek's 4664, which is really the same pattern, just a different envelope:

http://www.butterick.com/item/B4664.htm?search=4664&page=1

For those wanting to make the BB dress, this is really one of the best options:

http://www.butterick.com/item/B4985.htm?search=4985&page=1

Yes, it is a shirt, but all you need to do is extend the sleeves and shirt bottom and you have a dress.

The CF also V's out at the top, but you can just extend the neck out to the center by running a straight line up from the bottom of the pattern piece to close it off.

The bottom part of the shirt can be closed by overlapping as necessary and taping the pieces together. You'll need to put a side zip in, which is pretty straightforward as well (insert the zip before you put sleeves in).

Thats cool!

Just to let everyone know its just optional to do harry potter dress up! I am now investigating ticket buying dates etc. I am dressing up for sure, and a co worker of mine is coming and dressing as well. She is the biggest fan, so going is a big deal and I owe her anyway ^_^

I am going to be doing the newest uniform- I will do BeauxBaton student for sure one day- wouldn't it rule to run around like freaks in a clump?

Looks like tickets are on sale- so I will call everyone to see who is going!

The uniforms are these:
Off white (cream color) collar shirt, charcoal grey cadigan, button up with black buttons OR pull over (all cardigans have striping on the sleeve and bottom)
Charcoal grey skirt or pants- school of choice tie. Black shoes & opaque tights for girls

UPDATE I just saw some really expensive accurate dolls- their whole outfit is charcoal grey includingthe tights and black shoes- I think it would be fine with black tights just to spare our heads. ready set go!

Her eis one pull over
http://www.aramark-uniform.com/burbank/style.html?assort=public_assortment&style=3490

Button up Cardigan
http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?searchCID=25781&pid=461165&scid=461165012&vid=-1
this one can be rit dyed a little and made darker since its cotton!

V Neck Pull Over
http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=5180&pid=461167
Its possible to dye it its 70% cotton but 10% silk and 10%

I just went ahead and bought a sweater and tie from here:

http://www.whimsicalley.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=60175A01

This is the updated version that's seen in the new movie. They do run large, tho', so be warned. I like my sweaters big anyway, so I ordered an adult small (which, according to their sizing charts, is pretty big).

I also got a tie from them:

http://www.whimsicalley.com/detail.asp?PRODUCT_ID=60161A2

They only have it in the youth length of 46", which works fine for me (they even suggest the youth length for petite people). If you need the longer version, go here:

http://www.alivans.com/custom/cart/edit.asp?p=91398

I'm getting my winter white (ecru/cream will be too yellow, ww will be a soft warm white) shirt at either Tarjay or Marshall's, and I'm making a pleated skirt. I got lucky with the skirt fabric: I discovered a light-weight plainweave wool/poly blend in my stash! Yay! And it's charcoal! Yay! And I have lining! Yay! Even tho' it's kinda brownish! Oh well!

Anyway, the skirt pattern I went with is McCall's 7243 (now out of print, as I just discovered, and McCall's doesn't have anything to replace it): it's a flat-front wrap skirt with pleats starting at the side front, going 'round the booty. Not what I REALLY wanted (kick pleats over the thighs front and back), but it's what I had in stock and I'm sure as heck not gonna buy yet another pattern. It's a pretty nice skirt, tho', and goes together pretty quickly.

Oh, here it is - it's the blurry light brown skirt in the lower right hand corner:

I SCORED on the white shirt.

I checked out Tarjay first, since I wanted to pick up some other house stuff, and meandered through the clothes. Women's didn't have crap, of course - it was the men's section that had the basic item I needed. I found a plain white French-cuffed shirt for $10 (on clearance), then discovered when ringing out it had been reduced even further to FIVE DOLLARS.

I creamed my panties 4 shur! Laughing

NINJA EDIT: I'm seriously considering turning my character into a wanna-be Japanese high school gangsta, complete with face mask and black nails. Very Happy

There are several school uniform sites on the web, actually, and all of them have what you'd need for the Hogwarts skirts. It just comes down to who's the cheapest and has the most ready-made sizes (some you have to order to have made, they don't come off-the-peg).

HAH! DOUBLE POST!

Got tie and sweater today - sweater fits PERFECTLY, surprisingly enough. Not too long in either body or sleeve, or too big around. It's a lighter weight than I expected, too, which is good for summer wear.

The tie is long enough - I see what they mean about petites ordering the child's length.

See everyone soon!

I fitted the skirt to nikki it looks like it will fit great- All i am doing now is cutting them out and making them- while shopping for my tie and looking for tights!
Question- since we are actually just students, and some of them have their own flair do you think it would be lame to stylize and wear socks or dance pants or different tights? I dunno what i'd think- i think i would say that would get you a write up with the school being out of dress code?

I got a glimpse of the special preview on tv with interviews and stuff- Tonks hair is cool because it changes colors! ^_^

HP on SNL (hilarious!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmWzeUWwLL8

Lindsay Lohan sucks as always, but the skit is freakin' hilarious! I was laughing so hard I thought I'd pee my pants!

Could someone with fast connections and m@d 5k1ll5 make this available for those with slower connections? Like download and dump to yousendit? I can't seem to do that. Sad

And Usako - agreed on individualizing student outfits! I nearly bought a face mask at Mitsuwa yesterday, thinking about wanting to do the Japanese gangsta grrl. I'm gonna wear Docs and maybe my red and yellow flame tights (if they fit - don't remember!). I wish I had red and yellow shoelaces - I might have to go to Target later today.

I also have a pink crystal crescent moon pendant necklace and white bead pentacle earrings.

Hmm...what else? Gonna stick my hair up in two messy buns and wear too much lipstick and eyeliner.

And Tonks is a metamorphmagus. I wish I could change hair color so easily. Smile

NINJA EDIT: Also search YouTube for Harry Potter + South Park. Holy sh!t, dude! Laughing

We lurved it totally, but we both want to see it on the "normal" theatre screen - so much was out of focus on both ends!

And so much detail was left out due to time constraints. Story was still 100% cohesive, tho', which was great!

Order of the Phoenix is now on Gee-off![tm]'s Required Reading list (my doing).

See everyone soon!

PS: I've got the seventh book on pre-order at amazon.co.uk. I also found the second and fourth 1st UK editions at the Mtn View BookBuyers. They're in ok condition, but all pages there. W00T! (Bought 5th book in Italy - 1st UK edition! Yay!)
